Momentous Institute is excited to announce a partnership between Toyota and the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) that will benefit the families of Momentous School through a grant to develop the Toyota Family Learning Program! This program will expand Momentous Institute’s parent engagement through structured learning activities and community organization—led by its very own school families. Momentous School is honored to be one of four new sites across Dallas-Fort Worth to be able to offer this program to families.

The Toyota Family Learning Program is “a results-oriented, two-generation solution that aims to break the cycle of generational poverty through educational challenges and changes. It meets families where they are, builds upon family strengths and engages parents and children in authentic problem-solving.” This approach aligns with Momentous School, which has always focused on building family engagement.

The goal is to help parents develop leadership capacity, create parent leaders within the school and gain experience in a workplace setting. While topics and logistics of the program are in development, the program will include strategies to build social emotional health, including brain functioning, self-regulation and bilingual language development. Twenty-five parents of Momentous School students will attend 16 annual program sessions.

Twelve Momentous School parents participated in the Dallas NCFL Parent Leadership Institute this past spring. Two to four of these parents will lead the Toyota Family Learning Program during the next two school years. Momentous Institute is grateful to partner with Toyota and NCFL to see the next generation reach their full potential.
