Teaching students about changemakers helps them understand what it means to be a person who contributes to the well-being of their community. By examining examples of people who are acting as changemakers, students can begin to envision how they too can become changemakers. It is also important for students to understand that changemakers can be anyone making a difference, not just famous people or people on a national or international stage. A local grocer who starts a program for food-insecure families in their neighborhood is just as much a changemaker as the director of an international program to combat food deserts.

This lesson, Changemaker Chronicle can be adapted to fit any elementary or middle school classroom. Age it up or down with your choice of books and vocabulary!
