Park On The Positive

It’s the start of a new week, and many parents have now been schooling at home for a week or more. Just think – not long ago, the idea of homeschooling likely felt impossible, but now you’ve been doing it for awhile now! It may still feel impossible at times, and you probably feel like you’re juggling multiple plates at one time, and some feel like they’re about to crash to the ground. But let’s take a moment today to pause the juggling and think about the positives.

Reflect on your time so far schooling from home. Ask yourself the following questions. We encourage you to take pen to paper and jot down your answers to each.

  • What is going well?
  • What am I most proud of?
  • What am I doing well now that I wasn’t doing as well before?
  • If a friend were doing exactly what I am doing right now, what would I say to him/her? What would I congratulate him/her on? How would I talk about him/her?

Finally, ask yourself:

Often we are kinder to others than we are to ourselves. Picture someone you love in your position and extend the same grace and compassion to yourself as you would to them.

It is important to take time to acknowledge your own good work, praise yourself on your progress, and have self-compassion in times when you can’t do it all.
