Clinical Training

Applicants will be invited for an interview no earlier than Thursday, December 5, 2024 and no later than Friday, December 13, 2024.

2025 Interviews will be conducted via zoom and scheduled in 80-minute blocks across the following 6 days in January:

• January 7th, 9th, 15th, 22nd, 23rd, 28th

The internship is housed in our community mental health services department; however, interns often have many opportunities to gain experience at the Momentous School. During the training year, interns will conduct comprehensive psychological assessments for students at our school. Historically, interns have also run school groups for different grade levels and provided consultation for Momentous school teachers.

While we welcome students from school psychology backgrounds, please note that the structure of our internship cannot guarantee the required hours needed in a school setting for LSSP licensure. Students wishing to seek this specific licensure should consult with the licensure board for the state they intend to practice to determine how our program aligns with necessary licensure requirements.

At Momentous, we hope to provide generalist training that equips our interns to work with an array of presenting concerns and with individuals from across the developmental spectrum. Thus, we do not offer specific tracks/rotations within our program. However, we guarantee that our interns will gain experience in family therapy, child assessment, and in clinical practice with children, teens, and adults.

Additionally, our internship program requires participation in at least 1 group experience during the training year. Typically, interns participate in Huddle Up, our teen program, Forward Thinkers, our middle childhood program, or Launch, our early childhood program. We also have many other group programs that interns may opt to participate in throughout the year (e.g., Nature-Based Therapy, Parent Education, school groups).

Interns carry a caseload of both individual child, adolescent, and adult clients and family therapy clients. We utilize a systemic approach meaning interns have opportunities to work with a whole family in the capacity that best meets their needs, which may include individual therapy with an identified family member, parent-child therapy, caregiver consultations, sibling therapy, or therapy with the whole family system. 

Interns conduct comprehensive, integrated assessments with elementary age children at the Momentous School. Assessment referrals from the Momentous School often include questions about potential SLDs, ASD, ADHD, and mood/anxiety based disorders. Many students requiring an assessment also present with a trauma history. Interns receive extensive training on diagnostic differentiation and therapeutic assessment at our site. 

Interns participate on the Reflecting Team, which is a family therapy treatment modality that utilizes co-therapy and live supervision to enhance the training experience and deepen the therapeutic process for the family in treatment. 

Interns participate in a minimum of one group therapy experience throughout the year. This may include joining one of Momentous' groups or developing and leading a new group. Current Momentous groups include Launch, for ages 4-6, Forward Thinkers, for ages 7-10, and Huddle Up, for ages 11-15. All of our groups are experiential in nature and integrate families and parents into treatment. 

At Momentous we also make efforts to build interns' supervision skills through opportunities to provide supervision of a master's level practicum student. This opportunity is not guaranteed, as it is dependent on the number of practicum students training at our site and scheduling conflicts. 

Momentous also offers several optional clinical training opportunities that interns may participate in throughout the year. One such opportunity includes our nature-based camp programming, which involves spending a weekend providing therapeutic, nature-based education and treatment to clients at our 1400-acre camp property located in east Texas. Additional opportunities include participating in parent psychoeducation groups, community presentations, writing blogs, etc.  

We strive to provide interns with ample support and supervision to ensure confidence and competence conducting clinical work. Interns receive a minimum of 3.5 hours of individual supervision each week, including clinical and assessment supervision. Additionally, interns engage in 1 hour of group supervision with the Training Director and 1 hour of group supervision with the Reflecting Team supervisors each week.
