The reality of COVID-19 is an unparalleled time in our country’s history to pause, spend quality time with our families and find creative ways to engage our children. Here are some top activities to have fun as a family:

1. Play with bubbles because all ages can participate!

For pre-kindergarteners, blow the bubbles so they can giggle while they pop every bubble in sight. For older children, modify the activity so they have to listen for your directions to pop each bubble using a body part like their “right foot” or “left pinky finger.” Check out some other ideas around bubbles here.

2. Cook together to enjoy time together and make memories.

Pick an easy dinner recipe based on ingredients in your pantry or bake some cookies (even the snap and bake cookies will do) and bring your children into the kitchen to help. Walking through the steps together promotes listening and following instructions!

3). Walk and talk as a family.

Walking can stimulate breathing, break down barriers and encourage children to open up to talk about emotions as they get moving. If the weather permits, grab your tennis shoes, head outside and start a conversation for both your physical and social emotional health!

4. Read through every book in the house.

Children love to read so whether they are pre-kindergarteners who enjoy learning words as their parents flip the pages or older children who love to show off their comprehension skills, reading together is a treasured time for families. Pull books off of the shelves throughout your house and pick a few to read throughout each day.
