A new program at UNT-Dallas addresses social and emotional needs in the classroom — for the teachers.

The Emerging Teacher Institute, launched Thursday, aims to help future teachers stay in the profession by giving them coping skills to maintain emotional health — think mindfulness and meditation.

The Salesmanship Club Charitable Golf of Dallas recently announced the 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson raised $5.8 million in net proceeds for its beneficiary Momentous Institute. The Salesmanship Club of Dallas has owned and operated Momentous Institute since 1920 and began operating the PGA TOUR event in 1968. The tournament has raised more than $149 million for Momentous Institute to date.

”We want kids to be leaders," Roberts said. "So, part of that is understanding how to get along with others in their environment. How to take these strategies home and really use them in their home environment.”

The Salesmanship Club announced on Aug. 25 the net proceeds from the 2016 AT&T Byron Nelson golf tournament held in May. This year’s $5.8 million brings the PGA TOUR event’s total amount raised to more than $149 million since its inception in 1968.
