What's Included?

1. Perseverance Pumpkin

Everyone faces challenges. However, the ability to persevere in the face of a challenge is a skill that must be taught and practiced. When something gets tough, it is natural for a student to want to give up, but if they give up every time, they don’t learn that they are able to accomplish things even when those things become challenging. This lesson lets students take time now to prepare to persevere in the future when they are faced with a challenge. By creating a mantra to use when faced with a challenge, they are building the mindset they will need to persevere.

This lesson, Perseverance Pumpkin Patch can be adapted to fit any elementary or middle school classroom. Age it up or down with your choice of books and vocabulary!

2. Fall Feelings Leaf

Fall is here and that means that the leaves and weather are changing. Seasonal activities are always fun for kids, so we decided to create a fun fall activity to help kids learn more about feelings, specifically how there are A LOT of feelings.

Most kids know feelings like mad or happy, but it is important that they build a robust vocabulary when it comes to feelings. Feelings are complex and often times you can feel more than one at the same time. Because of this is can be challenging for kids to put into words how they feel if they don’t have the vocabulary. Learning a lot of different feeling words helps kids be able to name their feelings so that they can begin to self-regulate.

3. Farm to Table

There are two things that come up a lot during winter: food and gratitude. This time of year, we find ourselves dusting off our favorite recipes, and as the end of the year draws near, we often reflect on things we are grateful for. With this in mind, we thought it would be fun to combine these two things into an activity that families can do together when kids are home from school for winter break.

This activity has you take a favorite family recipe and think about all the people who make it possible for you to make this recipe at home – from the person who created the recipe to the people who stocked the groceries in the store and everyone in between. Thinking about all these people can help kids learn that they can be grateful for others and the work they do that directly and indirectly impacts them.

4. Talk About It: A Conversation Starter Kit For Families

Raise your hand if this interaction sounds familiar:

How was your day?

Fine.

Anything interesting happen?

Not really.

What did you do?

Not much.

You get the point. These types of general questions don’t often elicit the most thrilling feedback. Want to really get kids (and adults) talking? Try asking more fun questions!

In our Talk About It: A Conversation Starter Kit for Families, you’ll find everything you need to get started with fun family conversations. Build and decorate the box, fill it with cards, and – voila! – you’ve got yourself a table topper that will help spark fun and interesting conversation for many family meals to come.
