Love doesn’t have to be a grand gesture. It shows up in our daily lives in lots of ways. And we can help to nurture it. This week, try these three simple strategies to help spread the love.
Use a Love Lens
We tend to navigate the world in two ways: either by moving away from what we fear or by moving toward what we love. Our bodies can tell us the difference. Fear makes our bodies tense; love helps them relax. This week, try to pay attention to those signals. Notice when you’re running away from something out of fear and try to move toward love instead.
Be as Kind to Yourself as You Would to Others
It can be easier to show compassion to others than to ourselves. Self-compassion means showing ourselves the same care and acceptance we show to our loved ones. It takes practice, but we can do this by speaking to ourselves with warmth and encouragement, like we would to a good friend. This week, give yourself that gift by extending the same compassion to yourself that you give to others.
Send Loving Kindness
Sending loving kindness means intentionally directing goodwill toward yourself and others. We start with well-wishes for ourselves, like good health and happiness: “May I be happy. May I be healthy. May I be well.” Then we extend those same wishes to others. First to our friends and family, then to our acquaintances, and even to people we don’t know.
Love is all around us. By moving toward love, being kind to ourselves and sending well wishes into the world, we can remind ourselves that love isn’t something we have to wait for, but something we can cultivate through practice.
